Ovarian Cancer Negligence Claims
Ovarian cancer affects two small organs (ovaries) that are part of the female reproductive system. Anyone with ovaries can suffer with the cancer but it generally affects women who are over 50 years old.
Ovarian cancer is often diagnosed late but early diagnosis can make the cancers much more treatable. If you have been misdiagnosed with ovarian cancer and it has caused your condition to worsen then you may be able to claim compensation.
If you’d like to speak to a lawyer about your case, get in touch with our experienced team of medical negligence lawyers who will be happy to review your case and carry it through should you have one.

What is ovarian cancer?
Ovarian cancer is where a cancerous cell forms in the 2 ovary cells that form part of the female reproductive system and store the eggs needed to make babies. Most ovarian cancers start in the cells that cover the surface of the ovary (the epithelium) and are called epithelial ovarian cancers.
There are several types of epithelial ovarian cancer. They include:
- Serous – the most common type
- Mucinous
- Endometrioid
- Clear cell
- Undifferentiated or unclassifiable.
What are the symptoms?
The symptoms of ovarian cancer can be very similar to symptoms of other more common conditions. GPs should offer ovarian cancer tests to women who have symptoms of bloating and any of the other symptoms below if they happen more than 12 times a month or continue for three weeks:
- a long-lasting bloated feeling in your tummy (having a swollen tummy)
- feeling full quickly and/or loss of appetite
- pain or discomfort in the lower tummy area and/or back
- needing to pass urine more often or more urgently (feeling like you can’t hold on).
What can I claim for?
Most ovarian cancer claims come from the misdiagnosis of the cancers. This could be an initial misdiagnosis that has meant you have had to endure harsher methods to treat the condition or being incorrectly cleared of having the cancer.
