Hip Replacements
According to the latest NHS stats, there have been over 30,000 hip replacements in the last year in the UK. The surgery involves replacing the hip joint because it has become damaged or worn over time.
A modern hip replacement will last for about 15 years before needing a replacement and the surgery is more often carried out for ages 60 – 80 and in women. However, anyone can be considered for hip replacement surgery should they need it.
Hip Replacement Claims
Hip Replacement surgery can be required for a number of reasons and can greatly improve a patient’s quality of life and mobility. However, errors made during surgery or problems with a hip implant can have a devastating effect.
Below are a few of the complications that can arise from hip replacement surgery:
- Defective Hip Replacements
If a defective or faulty hip implant is used it is unlikely to last as long as usual so more surgery is required to remove and replace the defective or broken implant. - Securing the Hip Implant
If the hip implant is not fitted properly during the original surgery the implant could become loose much sooner than the normal life expectancy of 10-20 years. - Wrong sized Hip Implant
