Genetic Condition / Hereditary Disease Misdiagnosis

An accurate diagnosis of a genetic disease or hereditary disease can be devastating, but a ‘missed’ or inaccurate diagnosis can be even more so. Genetics simply refers to the passing of genes from parents or family members to their babies, these include traits such as facial features, build, hair colour but also genetic conditions.

Common problems that arise from genetic issues include:

  • Failure to advise
  • Failure to test
  • Mixing up results
  • Miscommunication of results

Genetic tests can be carried out on adults and children, sometimes during pregnancy. These tests can confirm the presence of a disease and whether that person is a ‘carrier’ of the disease, and may pass it on.
